Suppurative infection mastoid air cells within temporal bone
Post auricular inflammation, protruding auricle/canal
Children
- Rare complication AOM
- Acute < 1 month, chronic – months to years
- More commons < 2 years. But children > 2 years more likely to have complications
- Complications – collections inc intracranial, facial nerve palsy
- Abx and ?aspiration/mastoidectomy. Collect MCS
Adults
- Usually complication chronic suppurative otitis media or cholesteatoma
- Can be necrotizing (malignant) otitis externa
