Asperger’s Disorders

  • closely related to Autism
  • similar early onset impairment in social interaction
  • abnormal behaviour –
    • stereotypical behaviours & rituals
  • normal language fx
  • normal intelligence

Oppositional Defiant Disorder

Patterns of behaviour

  • Loses temper
  • Argues with adults
  • Actively defies or refuses to comply with requests/rules
  • Deliberately annoys people
  • Blames others for his/her mistakes
  • Easily annoyed by others
  • Often angry & resentful
  • Frequently spiteful or vindictive

Conduct Disorder

  • Aggression to people or animals
  • Destruction of property
  • Deceitfulness or theft
  • Serious violation of rules

Childhood onset: < 10 yo

Adult onset: > 10 yo

Developmental co-ordination disorder / dyspraxia

  • Problems with Motor co-ordination that interfere in function
  • Often noticed early school years – difficulty with simple motor tasks
  • Not associated with decreased intelligence

Specific learning disorders

  • A persistent difficulty with reading, writing, erithemic or mathematcis
  • Not explained by another developmental problem

Dyslexia

  • Specific reading disability
  • Difficulties with word recognition, speeking
  • Unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities
