Dacrocystitis
- Infection of the lacrimal sac secondary to obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct
- Inflammation over the medial canthus
- Often history of watery eye for months before because duct was blocked
- Staph, strep or gram negatives
- Mx
- Steam/moist compresses
- Analgesia
- If mild – masage sac and duct
- Cefalexin 500mg q6h
- If significant pain – ophthal consider surgical drainage
- Chronic – recurrent mucopurulent discharge, may have mucocele – needs surgical management
