Medical Criteria
- Permanent Disability:
- The impairment must be fully diagnosed, treated, and stabilized.
- The condition must be expected to last more than two years without significant improvement.
- Impairment Rating:
- An assessment based on the Impairment Tables, which measure the impact of the disability on the ability to work.
- A minimum of 20 points on the Impairment Tables is required to qualify.
- Inability to Work:
- The individual must be unable to work for at least 15 hours per week at or above the minimum wage in the next two years due to their impairment.
- The individual must be unable to benefit from a Program of Support to return to work.
Non-Medical Criteria
- Age:
- Must be between 16 years and Age Pension age.
- Residence:
- Must be an Australian resident and in Australia on the day the claim is submitted.
- Must have been an Australian resident for at least 10 years, with at least five years of continuous residency.
Financial Criteria
- Income Test:
- An income test applies, which considers both the individual’s and their partner’s income.
- Payments may be reduced or not paid if income exceeds certain thresholds.
- Assets Test:
- An assets test applies, considering both the individual’s and their partner’s assets.
- There are different asset limits for homeowners and non-homeowners.
