Trauma – anywhere from foot to hip
Infection
- Cellulitis
- Osteomyelitis
- Infectious arthritis
- Ross River virus
Inflammatory
- Gout (unusual at a younger age)
- Reactive arthritis Reiter’s syndrome
- Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, SLE
Post infectious
- Acute rheumatic fever
Primary bone
- Osgood Schlatter disease (common)
- Perthes disease of the hip (on the older side for this)
- Slipped upper femoral epiphysis (most likely in his age group)
- Shin splints
Neoplastic or haematological
- Bony tumour
- Haemophilia
- Thalassaemia
